The purpose of the Detroit Economic Club Scholarship Program is to assist students from the city of Detroit and three surrounding metropolitan counties in pursuing an undergraduate education. 

The criteria for selection include:

• Strong scholastic performance and academic honors received
• Exemplary leadership and character as demonstrated by extra-curricular activities, service in school and community, volunteer involvement and paid work experience
• Special consideration is given to students who have overcome hardships to achieve their personal and educational goals and family economic condition

A $2,000 renewable scholarship is awarded to two students each year. The DEC awards scholarships of up to eight students at any given time.
